The Colonial Secretary wrote to . Nychoy 28th May, 1880, informing that Her Majesty had been pleased to confirm his appointment as an

Gibb." The notification in the Garette N: 130 omits all mention of the term of 3 years.

3 years will expire on 21st January next, but W. Gibb retired.___ more than 2 years ago and according
to the tenor of the decretary of State's _ despatch above quoted Mr. Ng choy's
Acting appointment then expired.
